About JalaI wasn't always a fitness enthusiast. I was active as a child but somewhere along the way, particularly in college, I struggled to work and attend school both full-time while still making the grade. When I got out I was overweight and eating an average diet.
When life threw a series of challenges my way I opted to take my health into my own hands. When I realized that I had the power to change my reality (starting with myself) with my own willpower I took up fitness and nutrition in earnest, cleaning up my eating habits and taking up several forms of exercise including yoga, belly dance and Tae Bo®. I became a certified Tae Bo® fitness instructor in 2010 and taught until 2013, when I had to stop due to the development of spinal stenosis. I never stopped mentoring people, however, and during my break from teaching I consistently received questions from those seeking to better their overall wellness. In 2015 I became the moderator of Duckfeed.tv's online community's Wellness channel, where I have given advice to members since. In 2018, I recertified as a personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in order to resume teaching others. I am an active marathon and ultramarathon runner; a yogini; a belly dancer; an endurance athlete in both obstacle course race (OCR) events and rucking; a weightlifter; and a bootcamp fitness instructor located in Houston, Texas right next door to Pearland. My passion is holistic wellness, and my greatest wish is to positively impact the lives of others. Please reach out and say hello - I'm pleased to meet you! |
